Direct Connection in MSP360 Connect

Before version 2.0, MSP360 Connect initiated connections by leveraging a MSP360 server to channel the data between the two connected computers. This approach resulted in performance issues for some users, especially when connecting over long distances / intercontinental connections.

To improve the performance, version 2.0 introduced a new Direct Connection feature that establishes a direct connection between two computers without the need for any central server orchestration of data.

Since data is being transferred directly between the two computers, Direct Connection can significantly improve the performance and reduce latency. During internal testing, transfer speeds were increasing up to 80 times.

Direct Connection works with computers in the same network and with remote computers. For remote connections, an UPnP protocol is used. If a UPnP connection cannot be established, Remote Desktop falls back to using the MSP360 server to establish and manage the remote connection.

Enable Direct Connection

Direct Connection works out of the box and does not require any actions on the user's side. Remote Desktop automatically determines if a direct connection can be established and then proceeds with it. Once a direct connection is established, the Direct Internet sign appears next to the other computer's name if it is a remote computer, or Direct LAN if it is a local computer.
